Subject: Establishing new conservation practice
We are in the process of setting up a conservation practice in the historic town of Rye, East Sussex, UK, with the aim of providing a professional conservation service to local authorities, museums and galleries, churches, heritage preservation NGO's, archaeologists, developers and private individuals in the South East of England. With the ongoing reductions in conservation posts and funding across all sectors of the public sector it is hoped that we can fill the gap by become both a regional focal point for freelance conservators from the local area and a central source of expertise for those requiring conservation services. We hope to be able to supply facilities on an as-required basis for local conservators and professional support in the way a pool of expertise that can be drawn on to help complete freelance projects requiring more resources and skills than are available to the individual. We would love to make contact with other freelance conservators in the southeast of England so as to be able to build up a picture of the skills and resources locally available. If you would be interested please email a short CV and if possible a small portfolio (small images of the typical projects you undertake) to c.cleere<-at->gmail<.>com. More information on the type of work we are ourselves involved in can be seen at <URL:http://www.chriscleere.co.uk> As we are freelance conservators and are funding this enterprise from our own resources, set-up costs are a big issue when trying to offer across the board services. For this reason we are also asking for any individual or organisation who has conservation equipment that is no longer required, but that could be of use, be it old, broken or out of date, to consider donating or loaning it to us so that it can be restored and put back to work.
