Call For Participation in a session of the College Art Association's 99th Annual Meeting New York City February 9-12, 2011 CAA and American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works Session: Conservators Collaborating with Artists and Art Historians Cosponsored by the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works Organizers: Rebecca Anne Rushfield, independent scholar and Clare Hills-Nova, Sackler and Taylor Institution Libraries, University of Oxford. Mail proposals to: Rebecca Anne Rushfield 66-10-149th St., #4C Flushing NY 11367 or email: wittert<-at->juno<.>com Session description: Although restorers who repaired damaged works of art have long existed, it was only during the second half of the twentieth century that art conservation fully developed as an established profession and an academic discipline. This session celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of New York University's Institute of Fine Arts Conservation Center, the first American graduate level program in art conservation. Participants will consider how the interaction of conservators and other art-related professionals has enriched the work of all concerned. Possible pairings might include conservator and artist, conservator and art historian, conservator and curator, conservator and architect, conservator and archaeologist, conservator and photographer, and even, somewhat controversially, conservator and art dealer or conservator and forger. While academic papers may be considered, it is hoped that this session will include presentations in which both parties to the conservation interaction discuss their collaboration. *** Conservation DistList Instance 23:35 Distributed: Monday, March 15, 2010 Message Id: cdl-23-35-002 ***Received on Friday, 12 March, 2010
