Transportation Safety Administration's cargo inspection policy

Some of you may have heard about the Transportation Safety
Administration's 100% cargo inspection policy that goes into effect
August 1. An article appeared in the new York Times Feb. 13 and if
you're registered there, then you can see the article.

The link was also posted to the AAM Registrar's committee list.
However, it should be recognized that the article makes things out
to be much worse than it should be. (Museum insiders say that the
same airport inspectors that go through your suitcases aren't the
ones opening up cargo containers of art and historic artifacts nor
apparently will such inspections be done on the tarmac as the plane
is being loaded.) Mostly this policy will affect fine art handlers
and registrars, although conservators should also be aware of what
is going on. For more information, The TSA is offering both "Town
Hall" meetings to inform the affected communities as well as free
webinars. Your registrar should be made aware of this information if
they aren't already.

I'm not involved in any of this, but simply passing the information
along.
