12 month fixed term contract, starting 1 July 2010 or by negotiation

This position provides the opportunity for an experienced
conservator to work in the specialist Frames and Furniture
Conservation Section of the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV). The
NGV is Australia's oldest public art gallery with two display venues
and an off-site store. The Frames and Furniture Conservation section
undertake an extensive programme for the conservation of frames and
furniture as significant cultural materials in their own right, as
well as the manufacture of reproduction picture frames.

The programme of work includes the technical examination and
conservation treatment of frames and furniture in the NGV
collection; research, project co-ordination, and practical input for
the reframing of pictures in the collection; managing  programmes
for the preventive conservation of the collection, and the provision
of technical advice on handling, transport, display and storage of
frames and furniture items. An integral member of the team, the role
includes assisting in the administrative tasks of the section,
including coordination of part of the work programme as appropriate.
