Subject: Call for papers--ICOM-CC Ethnographic working group
Call for Papers and Posters ICOM-CC Working Group on Ethnographic Collections 16th Triennial ICOM-CC Conference Lisbon, Portugal September 19-23, 2011 ICOM-CC is now inviting paper and poster contributions for its 16th Triennial Conference. This two-step process consists of a call for abstracts of prospective papers and posters, followed by an invitation to submit full papers and poster abstracts for publication. The interests of the Working Group on Ethnographic Collections encompass all areas of research that may contribute to the understanding of the materiality, making and degradation of ethnographic objects (including folkloric objects, musical instruments etc) and which facilitates their conservation and presentation. Of specific interest are papers focussed on the Working Group Research Programme, i.e. on the following topics: Biocides in collections (history of use, identification, deterioration caused by biocides, mitigation and removal of residues) Material science studies (identification or deterioration of materials found in objects, treatment studies and case histories, cross-disciplinary projects) Ethics, values and decision-making (values-based differences in preservation strategies, different approaches re: ?Ethnography? vs ?Art?, preservation rationales and decision-making processes, historical reviews) Indigenous knowledge, Communities and Collaborations (including stakeholders? views on conservation and heritage and case studies on community involvement in conservation decisions) Exhibit issues and preventive conservation (including long term needs and maintenance). The first deadline to note is April 16, 2010, which is the deadline for authors to submit abstracts of papers and posters on the editorial website.
