Call for Papers and Posters

ICOM-CC Working Group on Ethnographic Collections
16th Triennial ICOM-CC Conference
Lisbon, Portugal
September 19-23, 2011

ICOM-CC is now inviting paper and poster contributions for its 16th
Triennial Conference. This two-step process consists of a call for
abstracts of prospective papers and posters, followed by an
invitation to submit full papers and poster abstracts for
publication.

The interests of the Working Group on Ethnographic Collections
encompass all areas of research that may contribute to the
understanding of the materiality, making and degradation of
ethnographic objects (including folkloric objects, musical
instruments etc) and which facilitates their conservation and
presentation. Of specific interest are papers focussed on the
Working Group Research Programme, i.e. on the following topics:

Biocides in collections (history of use, identification,
deterioration caused by biocides, mitigation and removal of
    residues)

Material science studies (identification or deterioration of
materials found in objects, treatment studies and case
    histories, cross-disciplinary projects)

Ethics, values and decision-making (values-based differences in
preservation strategies, different approaches re: ?Ethnography?
vs ?Art?, preservation rationales and decision-making processes,
    historical reviews)

Indigenous knowledge, Communities and Collaborations (including
stakeholders? views on conservation and heritage and case
studies on community involvement in conservation decisions)

Exhibit issues and preventive conservation (including long term
    needs and maintenance).

The first deadline to note is April 16, 2010, which is the deadline
for authors to submit abstracts of papers and posters on the
editorial website.
