Full-Time Maternity Cover: 6 month contract, with possibility of
extension

UKP22,457 - 26,294 p.a.

The British Museum is currently recruiting for a Scientist to work
within the department of Conservation and Scientific Research. This
post will involve responsibility for research and investigation of
the deterioration, conservation and technology of polymeric and
modern organic artefacts and materials in the collections of the
British Museum.

The ideal candidate will have a strong and relevant science
background combined with experience in analysis of modern organic
museum artefacts or polymeric materials (e.g. textiles, paper,
plastics, adhesives etc.) using a range of analytical techniques
such as: FT-IR, py-GC-MS, SPME, XRF, SEM-EDX. A strong interest or
experience in the technology and conservation of museum objects
would be an advantage.

Good verbal and written communication skills are essential; the
post-holder will be required to disseminate results and information
through reports, publication and lecturing etc. and to participate
in public outreach events.

The Museum is looking to appoint a candidate who, ideally, is able
to start in May and interviews are likely to be held in mid-March.
