Subject: Study day on daguerreotypes
The conservation of daguerreotypes, presenting a complex metallic build up and mostly kept in combination with different materials, is a unique and challenging task. In order to achieve a satisfactorily and improved understanding about different aspects such as constituting materials, image formation, surface deterioration and evaluation of cleaning procedures is needed. Through the exchange of knowledge and experiences between metal and photographic conservators, this study day wants to point out what is necessary as further research and in what way this should be executed. A kind of action plan will be set up as result, and participants will be asked to join in and contribute with parts of the outlined research in a given time schedule. This initiative is meant to be a catalyst to get concerned conservators joined together and hence develop on a structural basis more detailed and relevant insight in the problems related to daguerreotypes conservation.
