Internship at Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden

From: Gwynne Ryan <ryangw<-at->
Date: Sunday, February 7, 2010
Each summer the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden Conservation
Department implements a maintenance program for the outdoor
sculpture collection. For summer 2010, the museum is offering two
paid conservation internships, available to students working toward
or already enrolled in an art conservation program. The internships
last twelve consecutive 40-hour weeks, from June 14 to September 2,
2010.

The Hirshhorn Museum has more than seventy sculptures situated
throughout its sculpture garden and plaza areas. The objects, which
range in size from three to more than sixty feet in height, are made
from a variety of materials including stone, bronze, iron, aluminum,
glass, and steel.

The outdoor sculptures receive annual maintenance that can involve
such treatments as washing, the application of protective surface
coatings, and conducting structural repairs. Materials analysis and
technical study of select works will also be carried out. The work
is performed mostly outdoors, with conservation of the indoor
sculptures as required.

Stipends: Interns will receive stipends of $3,900 for the 12
consecutive weeks.

To apply, please email your cover letter and curriculum vitae to
