How to Stay Safe and Healthy in a 'Green' Studio: Concerns and Solutions while Caring for our Cultural Heritage Amsterdam, The Netherlands March 30 - April 1 2010 Restauratoren Nederland, the National Dutch Association for Conservation, is offering a 3-day course on Safety in the Studio/Laboratory The course will be held in English at the end of March 2010 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands Conservators/restorers employ hazardous materials and processes unlike those in any other industry. Instead of modifying precautions designed for common situations, this course is designed to provide sufficient training about safety regulations, chemicals, toxicology, and air pollutants for participants to be able to make well-informed choices about ventilation systems, protective equipment and precautionary strategies. After 30 years of training and architectural planning, occupational hygienist Monona Rossol believes this is simpler and a lot more fun than it sounds. Industrial hygienist, Frank Brekelmans will give an overview of Dutch safety regulations on the first day and in the workshop on the last afternoon, Erich Jelen and Nico Hijman will show you how we can deal with future problems by learning from the past. Restauratoren Nederland represents her members working in both public and private sectors in Holland. The Association supports the interests of its professionals while aiming to care for cultural heritage in general. The Board wishes to advance the expertise of its members and to stimulate the professionalization of the sector by supporting (among others) the Education Committee to offer such courses for its more than 500 members.
