Preventative Conservator The Science Museum Salary: UKP20,400 - UKP24,000 per annum pro-rata depending on knowledge and skills. Fixed Term Maternity Cover until September 2010 The Science Museum was founded in 1857 with objects shown at the Great Exhibition held in the Crystal Palace. Today the Museum is world renowned for its historic collections, awe-inspiring galleries and inspirational exhibitions. The Science Museum is seeking a flexible and enthusiastic preventative conservator to advise upon and ensure that deterioration of the collection is minimised through relevant preventive conservation methods; to support the Museum's active exhibitions and loans programme and ensure that the collection is preserved to the appropriate professional standards. We are looking for a confident, outgoing professional to provide high quality preventive conservation and collections care for the Science Museum's collections of science, technology and medicine objects. A recognised conservation qualification should be supported by demonstrable skills in preventative conservation. You will be able to demonstrate the ability to plan and execute your own work programmes and promote high conservation standards. The ability to use collection databases and image manipulation software are desired with practical expertise in risk assessment and COSHH will be essential.
