Subject: Desalination of canned food
We are currently looking into desalinating a range of tin cans from the early 1900's, some containing food and others empty. The surface of the cans have been tested and found to contain chlorides. We want to desalinate these cans, however we are hoping to hear from anyone who has had experience in this field: what solution was used and at what concentration; whether there was found to be any problems with corrosion/redeposition of the iron whilst in solution; if any problems were encountered with paint, etc. In addition, if anyone knows of any articles that could be referred to I would be most appreciative.
