Collections Information Manager Bryn Mawr College Full-time, 18-month position beginning January 2009. Bryn Mawr College seeks an experienced collections information manager to oversee establishing a new collections management system for the 60,000 objects in the College's art and artifact collections. The project will include installation of a new collections management system, EmbARK, and migration of numerous existing Access databases and image files. The Collections Information Manager will report to the Collections Manager for Art and Artifacts, and will work with both the Curator and Collections Manager on design and implementation of the database and development and codification of data entry procedures and standards. The position will oversee review and editing of collections data; entry of new data; training of undergraduate and graduate student assistants; and establishment of procedures for ongoing collections data entry work. Bryn Mawr's art and artifact collections include fine art, archaeological and ethnographic artifacts, decorative arts objects, and geological artifacts. The collections are intended to enhance the educational mission of Bryn Mawr College and to serve as a resource for diverse academic departments, including History of Art, Archaeology, Classics, Anthropology, Fine Arts, Growth and Structure of Cities, Geology, History, and Languages. Objects from the collections are utilized for research by faculty, students, and outside scholars; for exhibitions on the campus and the Internet; and for loans to regional, national, and international exhibitions. Qualifications: Bachelors degree in a field related to the college's collections. Masters degree in museum studies or related field desirable. Excellent computer skills, editing skills, and experience with relational database programs required. Knowledge of collections management and registration practices required. Experience managing a similar collections data migration project is highly desirable, as is experience supervising student workers. Candidate must be extremely detail-oriented and precise. Bryn Mawr was founded in 1885 and is located 11 miles west of Center City Philadelphia, PA. It includes an undergraduate college of 1300 women and graduate programs in the arts and sciences and social work for approximately 400 women and men.
