Subject: D-5 HD videotape for digital master copies
I've always been advised that when copying magnetic media, creating both analog and digital master copies is the best possible bet for preservation. There are benefits to both formats. We have a large collection of Betacams and U-Matics that are due for copying, and my inclination is to copy them onto Betacam SP and Digibeta, but lately there has been talk that HD/D5 tape is a better option than Digibeta. Can anyone else weigh in on HD/D5 as a preservation format? And is the desire to have both an analog and a digital master becoming outdated? *** Conservation DistList Instance 22:30 Distributed: Tuesday, November 25, 2008 Message Id: cdl-22-30-012 ***Received on Tuesday, 11 November, 2008
