Subject: Placement sought for Asian Cultural Council fellow
The following is posted on behalf of Mary Kay Judy of the Asian Cultural Council and Ms. Hisayo Nakai. Ms. Judy is very interested in ensuring that a placement is secured, as this particular award is not usually offered to conservators. Asian Cultural Council Japanese Painting Conservation Fellowship Placement Opportunity This year, for the first time, the competitive Japan Fellowship was awarded to a practicing Japanese oil painting conservator named Ms. Hisayo Nakai. After receiving her conservation training in Japan, she worked in the Netherlands and Belgium. She is currently a staff conservator at the Nara National Museum in Japan. <URL:http://www.narahaku.go.jp/index_e.html> Her fellowship provides full funding for a six-month residency in the United States while working at an accredited museum or institution. Her tentative arrival date in the United States would be Spring 2009. We would like to assist her with placement and are seeking expressions of interest from museum conservation departments. Please contact me for more information on the program and Ms. Nakai's experience and references. The Asian Cultural Council (ACC) is a foundation supporting cultural exchange in the visual and performing arts between the United States and Asia with offices in New York, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Taipei. The ACC was founded in 1963 by John D. Rockefeller III. Fellowships to individuals constitute the central feature of the ACC's grant program, the emphasis being on awards to artists, scholars and specialists from Asia for research, study and creative work in the United States.
