Subject: Magnets for exhibition mounting
Has anyone used magnets/magnetic for exhibition mounting? If so, what is your experience with it? At the Nationalmuseum of Denmark we are building a new permanent exhibition. The architect wishes to use a new system for mounting paper artifacts to the backwall of the exhibition case. The object will be mounted to an acid free board. On the backside of the board, there will be adhered two small metal plates on which there will be placed several magnets. The magnets will attach the board with metal plates to the backwall of the show case, which is made in metal. When mounted in the show case, the metal and the magnets will not be visible. Heavy objects will not be mounted in this manner. This type of mounting has not been used at the museum before, so I have no experience in the choice of layers and the durability of the system.
