New site--Australian Institute for the Conservation of Cultural Materials (AICCM)

On 8 October 2008 the Australian Institute for the Conservation of
Cultural Materials (AICCM) launched its new website:

    <URL:http://www.aiccm.org.au>

The aims of this project were to develop both informative and useful
resources about conservation for the public and to provide better
services for our members. We hope our new site will become one of
your favourites--if not your home page.

The AICCM site has a strong focus on Australian collections,
resources and stories, but also links to many international
resources. We are keen to link to our sister organisations overseas
and to related cultural heritage organisations--so please contact us
if you would like to make a connection.

Some features of the new website include:

Online access to AICCM publications, as PDF documents (publications
from the last 5 years are available only to members)

    "Conservators at work"
Image galleries of conservators in the lab, off site and
undertaking a variety of conservation treatment activities

   "Remedies Gone Wrong"
Examples of damage caused by inappropriate cleaning, repair,
        storage and display

   "Visual Glossary"
Definitions of types of damage, illustrated with images
        provided by AICCM members

   "Caring for your Collections"
Links to online resources about caring for different types
        of materials

Links to news stories about conservators and conservation issues

    Event listings

The AICCM Bookshop, with both print and PDF publications
    available

Payment can be made online, via Paypal

A new searchable directory of AICCM members in private practice

Members can also access the online AICCM Member Directory, an online
"card file" of useful supplier contacts, job listings and event
planning guidelines. Members can manage and renew their membership
online. To utilise members-only content, existing members will need
to re-register for the site--contact the AICCM Secretariat
(secretariat<-a t->aiccm< . >org< . >au) for further details.

If you'd like to become an AICCM member in order to access these
fantastic resources, please visit our "Join" page--there's a link on
the homepage.

As the AICCM is listed as a tax-deductible Public Fund, you can also
donate to AICCM online.

Many people helped to put this new site together--so big thanks to
the website committee (Alice Cannon, Jenny Dickens, Rowena Jamieson,
Sarah McHugh, Marika Kocsis and Jodie Proud), Crina Belevi from the
Collections Australia Network, our site developers Energetica (Lisa
Harvey, Kim Brebach, Nili Steiner, Peta Carney, Danielle Hickie and
Kaho), all those who contributed text and images for the site, our
site testers and our Secretariat Officer, Robert Franzke. Finally,
many thanks to the AICCM National Council for supporting this
initiative.
