Conservator Burns Library Boston College Libraries Classification: Ungraded To provide conservation services for the special collections and archives of the Burns Library; to assist other Boston College libraries with conservation issues. Duties and Responsibilities Plan and perform conservation work on material in the Burns Library Work with Reference Librarian on exhibits organized in the Burns Library (roughly 5 to 10 per year) Maintain Disaster Plan for the Library Train and supervise student library aides working in the Conservation Department Participate in the Bookbuilders' scholarship program in cooperation with the Burns Librarian, the Senior Reference Librarian and the Head, Archives and Manuscripts. This includes participation in the search for and selection of the Bookbuilders' Intern and teaching the conservation component of the internship Give short rare book "care and handling" training sessions to all new student library aides and regular staff in the Library Monitor the Library's environment Purchase supplies for the Conservation Laboratory Organize and supervise conservation work done by off-campus vendors Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's degree; formal training in a conservation program or suitable alternative. Experience: Minimum of two years experience in conservation, preferably in a research library setting. Skills: Knowledge of book and paper conservation; good interpersonal and communication skills; strong organizational and management ability.
