Subject: University of Texas portfolio requirements for Certificate of Advanced Study in Conservation
The Kilgarlin Center for Preservation of the Cultural Record, School of Information, University of Texas at Austin, has instituted a new procedure for submitting portfolios as part of the application process for admission to the Certificate of Advanced Study in Conservation. Requirements for Application to Conservation Certificate of Advanced Study: Successful completion of 2 semesters of general chemistry and 1 semester (including the lab) of organic chemistry. Phone interview or in-person interview in Austin. Phone interviews will be conducted in mid-February. Submission of a portfolio to include the following: One two- or three-dimensional object such as a bound book, sculpture, drawing, or craft that demonstrates manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; Digital images of a selection of items that speak to your conservation treatment, artistic (preferably representational), bookbinding, or craft skills. This work must be sent to the Kilgarlin Center in the form of (1) images on a CD or (2) a URL for a website you have created of your work. Please send the CD in the package with your two-/three-dimensional sample. If you create a website of your work, please place a note in your package clearly noting the URL. Portfolios must be submitted at the same time you submit your application to the School of Information. Portfolios should be mailed to the following address. Please note that you must use an express carrier (DHL, UPS or FedEx).
