Subject: Emerging Conservation Professionals Network
At the 2008 Annual Meeting, AIC began forming a new group focused on conservators just entering the field. Over the intervening months, this new group started to formulate the direction in which they wanted to go. After a survey and initial meeting, they are off to a great start. Here are some of the things that they will be doing over the coming months: Begin listing internship/pre-program training opportunities on the new AIC website Send out more detailed surveys about the state of the field of conservation Establish a Mentoring Program Organize networking happy hours in various cities Take part in more virtual networking Develop and execute a plan to present the AIC outreach lecture Host their own business meeting and separate reception at the 2009 Annual Meeting in Los Angeles Update AIC's Conservation Training in US brochure/information If you are a pre-program student, student, or a conservator just entering the field, consider becoming involved in one of the above initiatives. If you are a seasoned conservation professional, think about volunteering for our Mentoring Program. Take part on one of our conference calls happening every Third Thursday at 1 pm Eastern time.
