Conservators' Round Table--addendum

From: Sif Dagmar Dornheim <sddornheim<-a>

In Conservation DistList Instance: 22:9 Saturday, August 9, 2008, I
introduced the Conservators' Round Table. I have been asked to give
some more details about it, which I'm happy to do.

This group was created as a platform for an exchange of experiences,
information and technological, professional matter for conservators
all over the world. It is independent from any organization but it
is included in a professional network called Xing
<URL:http://www.xing.com>. As this network is concerned, you have to
register there, you can use it professionally or privately if you
like, but there is no need. To take part in the group a basic, free
membership is sufficient.

The group is limited to conservation/ restoration topics, so it is
for conservators, restorers and conservation scientists. Right now
the group is divided in different forums, like conservation
specialties, collection care, expositions, upcoming events for
conservators, conservation science and much more. But it is a
flexible offer. Once you are member in this group, you can post
questions or information directly in the respective forum and it
will be displayed immediately. Depending on the other members and
how actively they take part, you might receive reactions
immediately. On the other hand the articles generally stay there for
a period of time, so other opinions can be added later on, or you
yourself can add your experience based on the information you
received. As well there is room for discussions in the forums as you
can react directly to any comment the other members make. If you are
only interested in a special topic, you don't have to browse through
everything, but just go directly to the part you are interested in.
There is also the possibility to "subscribe to a forum", so that you
will be informed by e-mail if there are any new articles or answers
to your question. From time to time there will be a newsletter as
well.

In this way it is just a different, maybe more convenient form of
exchange in between conservators and I would be glad if more people
join.

Hope this information will be sufficient. If not, don't hesitate to
contact me.
