Under the direction of the Preservation Librarian and working in a
dynamic, friendly, and well appointed lab, the incumbent will treat
a broad range of rare books (e.g., cloth-, paper-, vellum-, and
leather-bound volumes) and manuscripts for the Marriott Library's
Special Collections. The incumbent will examine, prepare treatment
proposals for, and treat archival documents and bound material, and
design and construct custom-fitting protective enclosures. The
position includes some supervision of conservation technicians
(interns and students), and service as a member of the University's
Collections Emergency Response Team.

At the time of employment, the incumbent must be able to complete a
broad range of complex book and paper conservation treatments in a
timely fashion and manage issues related to operations of a book
conservation lab. The incumbent must be able to work independently
as well collegially with a dynamic group of professional colleagues
within the library's newly renovated conservation facility.

Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in History, Art, Humanities,
Library Science, or a related field, or equivalency plus one year of
directly related experience required. Advanced degree in a related
field or a conservation certificate plus additional years of
experience preferred. Knowledge of conservation and preservation
principles and demonstrated ability to perform essential functions
of the job as outlined in the full position description required.
Demonstrated effectiveness in human relations and communication, as
well as experience supervising, teaching and training others
preferred.

Salary: $33,086 - $43,000 per year, depending upon qualifications,
plus generous health and retirement benefits. Applicants are
