For work in August/September 2008:
Conservation Survey and Planning in support of Archaeology Center
facility design

The Presidio Trust is in the early planning stages for a new
archaeology center facility, which calls for conservation
functionality in its laboratory space. Because we don't have a
professional archaeological conservator on staff, I am looking for a
local (San Francisco Bay Area) consulting conservator to work with
the design firm during the planning phases of this project,
beginning as quickly as possible. [Concept design for the facility
has been completed, and schematic design is underway. We'd like to
get a conservator involved in the process immediately as a result!]

The project includes the following: an assessment of our
archaeological collections to identify current and future
conservation needs; a review of facility design documents for the
new laboratory; preparation of a summary recommendation report with
guidance on (1) conservation priorities for future work planning (2)
layout, requirements, specifications and equipment for the
conservation area of the new facility (3) in-house conservation
capability and work plans, to be performed by Trust staff (4)
additional on-site conservation capability, for contract
conservation work. The project includes  on-site work at the
Presidio to assess the collections and to meet with the full project
team, as well as time for phone call and/or email advice.
