The Conservation Department of the Frick Art Reference Library seeks
qualified candidates for the permanent, full-time position of
Assistant Conservator.

Responsibilities: The Assistant Conservator participates in all
conservation and preservation activities undertaken by the
department to protect and conserve the Library and Archives
collection materials. Performs intermediate to advanced treatments
on a wide variety of materials including printed books, pamphlets
and ephemera, manuscript and photograph albums, and architectural
drawings and reproductions. Helps develop, manage, and implement
collection-level projects. Assists with supervision and training of
staff and with Internship Program.  Works closely with Conservators
in all departmental efforts, including coordinating the Library's
environmental monitoring, disaster preparedness plan, staff and
reader education, and preservation surveys, exhibits and binding
policies.  Maintains laboratory equipment and materials.  Researches
and makes recommendations on conservation policies, procedures,
methods, equipment and materials to keep abreast with recent
developments and advances in the field of book and paper
conservation. Represents the Library through participation in local
and national conservation conferences and professional
organizations.

Qualifications: Graduate from an accredited conservation program and
at least 3 years work experience or an equivalent in education and
experience in book and paper conservation.  Extensive knowledge of
current conservation theory, chemistry, practices and ethics.
Thorough knowledge of 16th through 20th century book and paper
history, materials, and construction. Demonstrably well developed
skills in the examination, evaluation, treatment, and documentation
of library or archival collections. Excellent written, verbal, and
interpersonal skills. Experience in project planning, management,
and supervision preferred.
