Conservator of old master paintings and/or modern paintings (Temporary position) The Netherlands Institute for Cultural Heritage (ICN) at the Collections Department in Rijswijk/The Hague 3-5 days/week The Netherlands Institute for Cultural Heritage (ICN), which houses the State Collection (ca 100.000 objects), has a Conservation Department with an international reputation. In 2007 an ambitious three year project started concerning the conservation of over 4000 objects on loan at the Dutch ministries. The project lasts till end 2009. The ICN is looking for a full-time project-conservator who will undertake a wide range of activities within this project: the checking, assessing and reporting on the condition of paintings on location as well as undertake their cleaning and conservation and also some structural repair work. The ICN is looking for a well-qualified conservator with a first degree or equivalent in a science or arts/humanities subject followed by a recognised post-graduate qualification in the conservation of old master and/or modern paintings. In addition to a high level of practical skills in the restoration of paintings, the eligible candidate must have the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with a wide range of individuals. He or she will be highly self-motivated and able to organise his/her own workload with a minimum of supervision and be able to work independently and in a team. Familiarity with digital photography, as well as experience with Word, Excel and Photoshop is required. The ICN offers a temporary contract till the end of 2009 through an employment agency. Salary will be, depending on qualifications and experience.
