The international masterclasses are attended by curators and
conservators from all over the world. Some of the top-teachers come
to the ICN to give lectures and workshops about some of their work
and experiences.

This workshop provides relevant knowledge on history and treatment
of iron gall inks and implements current research outcomes. The main
focus is on problem solving, decision making, critical and creative
thinking. Unique is the interdisciplinary approach of the workshop.
Topics include iron-gall history, preparation of iron gall ink,
examination of artefacts, ink identification, risk management,
applying pre-treatment tests, calcium phytate treatment, overview of
treatments for ink-corroded paper objects and newly developed
non-aqueous treatment agents. Risk management is introduced as tool
for the preservation of iron gall ink containing collections. A
visit will be paid to the Municipal Archives of Amsterdam.
