Internship in Conservation The National Library of Ireland The Heritage Council of Ireland and and the National Library of Ireland <URL:http://www.nli.ie> are pleased to offer a one-year internship in Paper conservation. The internship, in Dublin, will begin in October 2008. This internship complements existing internships part funded by the Heritage Council as part of its promotion of conservation standards across Ireland. The successful candidate will work in the Library's Conservation Department and will have an opportunity to work with a number of Conservators with expertise in Paper conservation. There will also be opportunities for the intern to experience the broad range of conservation and preservation projects currently underway in the Library. The internship will focus on the conservation of the unique Bog Commission maps (1810-1814) and other objects identified for inclusion in a major exhibition opening in 2009. The Intern will be expected to research aspects of the examination and treatment of these varied objects, and to contribute to the treatment decision making. An internship report will be supplied by the candidate, for in-house publication, towards the end of the twelve months. Candidates should be recent graduates of a recognised conservation training program, (or have equivalent experience). The applicant should have enough experience to be able to work with a degree of independence.
