Subject: Survey on documentation
Mellon Conservation Documentation Survey <URL:http://tinyurl.com/6rtgvn> Deadline for Completion: Monday June 16, 2008 The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation has recently launched a study of the ways in which institutions use digital technology to record conservation documentation. Some museums do this within a collections management system (CMS) or are developing systems or modules that work with the CMS. Others may not have a CMS and manage the documentation independently, whether by design or circumstance. The goal of the study will be to use the information gathered to encourage and assist in developing or improving systems that will be more responsive to the needs of conservators; and to inform the community about any such developments under way. While this study is set within the context of a larger project assessing the challenges, opportunities and implications of digital documentation, we are now surveying conservation departments worldwide about the specific tools and procedures they are using to manage conservation documentation in digital form. We invite and encourage you to participate in this technical survey and to encourage your colleagues to do the same. The survey is now available at <URL:https://www.surveymonkey.com/ s.aspx?sm=QgiDUjiskD1Cll115OZ01g_3d_3d> or, more manageably, <URL:http://tinyurl.com/6rtgvn> **** Moderator's comments: The above URL has been wrapped for email. There should be no newline. If you plan to complete the survey, please do so by 8pm (EST) Monday June 16, 2008. A report on the findings of the survey will be available by the end of the year.
