The National Trust believes passionately in conserving the historic
interest and natural beauty of our environment, whilst encouraging
people to enjoy and learn about it. We are looking for a Preventive
Conservation Adviser (Environment) to guide environmental monitoring
and control in historic properties across England, Wales and
Northern Ireland, and lead on scientific issues related to
collections and historic interiors conservation.  This position
offers an exciting opportunity to participate in the conservation
work of the National Trust, engaging with current scientific
research initiatives and the mitigation and adaptation of climate
change.

You will join a team of Conservation Advisers in the National
Trust's central office in Swindon and will provide advice and
professional expertise to property staff and teams of Conservators
working in the regions and countries, and Advisers in other
disciplines at the centre. The work includes training property
staff, overseeing technical standards in environmental monitoring
and control, maintaining environmental control records, advising on
environmental monitoring and control priorities including the
allocation of resources, and enabling sustainable access to historic
buildings and collections.

You must have a good first degree in science and/or a recognised
conservation qualification. You will have sufficient practical
experience and post qualification employment as a Conservator or
Conservation Scientist to be able to demonstrate that you are at
least proficient in preventive conservation. PACR is highly
desirable. Communication, team working, organisational, planning and
IT skills are important as well as the ability to promote the
interests of conservation and to train, motivate and develop staff
at all levels. A valid driving licence is also required.
