Technician in chemistry applied to paper conservation science

The Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, the French public
institution for scientific research, has a job opening for a
technician in chemistry applied to the science of conservation of
paper, to work in the paper section of Centre de Recherche sur la
Conservation des Collections (CRCC), in Paris. Information about the

Salary range: monthly 1350-1450 EUR
Work/Leave: 38.5 hours weekly, 44 days of annual leave
Benefits: yearly income includes 13 to 13.5 months full salary.

Qualification and requirements: the applicant should be from
European community national. He/she will preferably hold a BSc level
honours degree or equivalent in one of the chemistry disciplines,
preferably analytical chemistry. If the diploma has been obtained in
a EC country it will need to be validated as the French equivalent
diploma, i.e. at least 2 years academic degree above secondary
school level. Applicants will have a fair level in French language
as the written application and the oral presentation to the
selection committee will be conducted for the major part in French.

Duties and responsibilities: assignments will be associated with
paper conservation research in assistance to conservation scientists
at the CRCC. The work will be mostly performed with analytical
instrumentation such as size-exclusion chromatography, liquid and
gas chromatography, capillary electrophoresis, and will also include
basic chemistry methods such as pH and titration measurements as
well as mechanical testing of paper materials. The successful
applicant will also be responsible for the maintenance of equipment
such as climatic and pollution chambers used in experiments
simulating accelerated ageing.
