DNA-based security marking systems

From: Barry Knight <barry.knight<-a>

Does anybody have any experience in using DNA-based security marking
systems on museum objects or books? These systems are marketed
under various names, including Smartwater, SelectaDNA and Identidot
in the UK. Did you find them easy to use? Did you take any special
precautions when applying the solutions to objects? Most
importantly, do you have any evidence that they have deterred
thieves? I appreciate that most institutions will not want to
reveal what security systems they use or how effective they are, but
if people were able to contact me off-list I would be very grateful.
