Internship at Missouri History Museum

From: Linda Landry <llandry<-a>
Date: Monday, April 14, 2008
Summer Conservation Internship 2008
Missouri History Museum
St. Louis, MO

The Missouri History Museum is accepting applications from students
for the Williams summer internship in the Department of
Conservation. The internship period is eight (8) weeks. The stipend
is $3,000 for eight weeks, approximately 35 hours per week. The
conservation intern will assist the Objects Conservator in preparing
a range of objects for upcoming exhibitions including Katherine
Dunham: Beyond the Dance, "Changing for the Seasons: From Swimsuits
to Skates", an exhibit exploring outdoor recreation and leisure in
St. Louis, and an exhibit on the Civil War in Missouri. Conservation
projects will include surveying objects slated for display,
preparing exhibit recommendations, and conducting conservation
treatments. Graduate conservation students preferred.

The internship is open to pre-program students, graduate students
who have yet to decide on an area of specialization, and also to
those who may have established an area of interest in general
objects or ethnographic conservation. This is an excellent
opportunity for conservation students to gain practical experience
in a fast-paced and intense history museum setting. Start and
completion dates are flexible. Non-conservation students may apply.
At least one semester of chemistry and/or experience in a chemistry
lab is required.

letters of recommendation, and a short statement of the candidate's
interests and intent in applying for the internship. Completed
applications should be received by May 19, 2008 and can be sent by
