US/ICOMOS seeks Wood Specialist(s) for possible heritage conservation mission to the Caribbean US/ICOMOS is trying to identify a conservation specialist with broad and varied experience in preserving vernacular wooden structures in hot and humid climates who would be willing to participate in a technical assistance cooperative mission to the Caribbean to lead a workshop or series of workshops in conjunction with local heritage authorities, local craftsmen and preservation NGOs in towns that are grappling with the management of large inventories of vernacular wooden buildings intended to remain in their current residential and commercial use, in communities with limited financial resources. The workshop(s) will provide a special focus on mechanisms and techniques needed to develop a more solid skilled local craftsman foundation through additional training, if needed. US citizenship is required. An understanding of, or some fluency in spoken Spanish is a plus, but not a requirement. Selected expert(s) will receive a modest honorarium and per diem. All travel and lodging expenses will be paid. The duration of the mission will range from one to three weeks, depending on expert's availability.
