Marble church monument

I wonder if anyone could help me establish whether the re-bedding of
a marble church monument (in a non environmentally controlled
church) with casting plaster is appropriate, and what the
alternatives are in terms of similar strength and 'reversibility'
(I'm thinking specifically of salt contamination but would be
interested in other thoughts also). Pointers to relevant
publications/ articles etc. would be of great assistance if anyone
knows of any.
