Post-graduate fellowship in paper conservation Library of the Jewish Theological Seminary The Conservation Department of the Library of the Jewish Theological Seminary is seeking a postgraduate paper conservation fellow for a one-year term. Summary description of position: Survey, treat and re-house approximately 1,000 Hebrew manuscripts in preparation for digitization. Specific duties and responsibilities: The fellow will conduct a survey of approximately 1,000 manuscripts from the Library's Special Collections. Selected manuscripts will be treated and rehoused as necessary. Additionally, the fellow will supervise a concurrent digitization project of the surveyed manuscripts. This may involve working with a conservation technician to carry out digitization for the project. Requirements: We are looking for someone with excellent organizational and communications skills, flexibility, and collegiality. The interviewed candidates will be required to show a portfolio of both written and photographic documentation of previous treatments. Experience with digitization projects a plus. Educational Requirements: Recent graduate from a recognized conservation training program, with a specialization in paper conservation. Reading knowledge of Hebrew a plus. Salary: High 30s.
