Call for Papers

We invite you to give a paper or poster at the conference:

Conservation of wet organic archaeological materials
    Fachhochschule Brandenburg
Brandenburg an der Havel, Germany, Audimax
    11-13 September 2008

Organized by:

Working group on archaeological materials at the Verband der
    Restauratoren in Deutschland e.V. (VDR)

and

    Brandenburgisches Landesamt fur Denkmalpflege und
    Archaologisches Landesmuseum

The number of archaeological excavations is still high and often
larger amounts of wet organic materials are found. The aim of the
conference is to give conservators, archaeologists, taxidermists and
scientists dealing with such finds the opportunity to discuss recent
developments in conservation of wet organic archaeological
materials.

The main topics are:

Recovery and first aid on excavations
Storage after excavation and before conservation
    Reburial and monitoring
Handling of large quantities of finds
    Use of biocides
    Conservation methods
Conservation of individual objects, composite and issues
    concerning their display
Environmental conditions for storage and display

It is intended to visit the recently opened Archaologisches
Landesmuseum and the Brandenburgischen Landesamte fur Denkmalpflege
with the Conservation laboratory for waterlogged materials in
Wunsdorf.

The congress languages will be German and English. If you wish to
give a presentation or poster please send us an abstract of about
250 words by 31 March 2008 (20 minutes presentation followed by 10
minutes for discussion). Please download the registration form from:
