Preventive Conservation MA online at Northumbria University

"Promoting and Sustaining Excellence"

The new Preventive Conservation MA offers a new more flexible
approach to learning that can be either full/part time, on campus or
on line and has been especially designed for those already in
working practise or who are unable to attend campus or commit to a
rigid timetable.

Students develop an understanding of the wide range of materials
that are used to create objects of moveable cultural heritage,
issues relating to environmental management and collections care as
well as the most appropriate strategies for storage, display and
transportation.

The programme is highly vocational and provides an ideal basis from
which to enter collections care or preventive conservation. It can
follow on from a wide range of first degrees including: art history,
archaeology, fine art, chemistry, physics, engineering or computing.
For those already involved in collections care it offers the
opportunity to develop a research interest whilst underpinning
knowledge and understanding with a formal qualification that can
contribute towards professional accreditation

The integration of best practise with working practise is reflected
in both the content and structure of the programme, which combines
the principles of preventive conservation with an extended work
experience placement followed by a dissertation.

The mission of Northumbria is to foster an international community
based on teaching excellence and outstanding student support in
which learning and academic enquiry are both enriching and exciting
whether on campus or via the internet.
