Assistant and Associate Objects Conservators
American Museum of Natural History

The anthropology department of the American Museum of Natural
History is seeking to hire 6-8 assistant and associate level
conservators for a 3-year project to work on the renovation of the
historic Hall of Northwest Coast Peoples beginning in the late
spring.  The first portion of the project will include documentation
and treatment of 75 totem poles and other oversize carvings.  This
will be followed by treatment of approximately 1300 smaller objects
made from a variety of materials including, wood, painted wood,
fibers, feathers, bone and ivory, textiles, and metals in the second
portion of the project.  Project conservators will work under the
direction of museum's conservation staff.  Candidates should
demonstrate proficiency in all aspects of documentation and
treatment, as well as ability to work well in a group.

Candidates for these positions must be graduates of a recognized
graduate conservation program or have equivalent training, with a
minimum of two additional years of museum conservation experience
for assistant level positions and 5 additional years for associate
level applicants.  Title and salary is commensurate with experience,
