The University of Applied Sciences Berlin (FHTW), class of conservation and restoration announces a basics course on preventive conservation, running in April 2008. Alexandra Jeberien MA Teaching language: German Dates: April 5, 11-12, and April 26 2008 Fees: Euro 260,00 FHTW-Alumni Euro 208,00 Location: University of Applied Sciences Berlin Campus Oberschoneweide Wilhelminenhofstrasse 75a 12459 Berlin, Gebaude A2 "Principles of preventive conservation" focuses on the basics of preventive conservation knowledge, as well as on current developments in disaster planning and risk management. Main topics include environmental factors as there is lighting/radiation, climate control, biological infestations and air pollutants. Further the course will look into storage organisation, transportation as well as presentation and mounting techniques. As mentioned, "Principles of preventive conservation" will also offer disaster planning procedures and give an introduction to the concept of risk management for cultural heritage. The course will be taught on four days in April 08. Lectures will take place on campus at the University of Applied Sciences Berlin, also excursions will be offered to the museums of Berlin's city centre.
