Feather Conservation: a two Day Workshop
Pitt Rivers Museum, Oxford, UK
16-17 April 2008

Due to considerable demand the ICON Ethnography Group is organising
another two-day workshop to study the conservation of feathers. This
workshop will be held at the Pitt Rivers Museum, Oxford, UK and led
by Allyson Rae. Allyson has extensive experience in the conservation
of artefacts incorporating feathers. Now a freelance conservator,
she was, until recently, Head of Organic Artefacts Conservation at
the British Museum.

Encompassing both theoretical and practical sessions, the workshop
will cover the structure and nature of feathers, their causes of
deterioration and principles and practice for non-interventive and
basic interventive options (soil removal, reshaping, repair
techniques). Participants have the opportunity to bring feathered
objects to the workshop for discussion. Participants need to bring a
few personal tools for practical sessions, to be advised on
registration.

The cost of the 2 day workshop is UKP200, includes materials,
handouts, tea and coffee but not lunches. Payment must be made prior
to the course. 12 places are available. A limited number of student
places are available at the reduced cost of UKP150. Please send
proof of status with your registration form.

Registration forms can be downloaded from

Completed registration forms should be sent to Charlotte Cowin

The high demand means that places can only be allocated to those
with completed registration forms.
