Subject: Masterclass on Ethiopic bindings
The British Library is pleased to announce the first in its new series of Masterclasses. The first course: Ethiopic Bindings will take place 25-29 February 2008 and will cost UKP550. The week long course--run by John Mumford, Head of Book Conservation at the BL--will give an introduction to the history of Ethiopic Binding. Through a series of practical demonstrations and exercises participants will gain an understanding of the construction of an Ethiopic binding within a cultural and historical context. Reference will be made to the conservation of historical Ethiopic bindings. Some knowledge of the history of bookbinding would be desirable but is not essential. This course is aimed at book conservators and participants are expected to already have skills in book structures. Places are limited in order to provide close supervision and maximum opportunities for discussion and interaction. For further details please contact Alison Faraday <alison.faraday<-a t->bl< . >uk> Further masterclasses at the British Library will be announced in January 2008 and booking details will be posted on our website. *** Conservation DistList Instance 21:37 Distributed: Friday, January 4, 2008 Message Id: cdl-21-37-012 ***Received on Friday, 21 December, 2007
