Silicone-treated polyester film

This is a message I received from Aaron Salik of Talas, posted with
permission.

"I saw your post online and thought I may be able to help. I
unfortunately cannot comment much on the aging affect of
silicone on polyester, but we have encountered the problem you
describe on a few occasions of batches of new coated film that
we have had manufactured for us. The problem is that the
silicone coating was not properly cured, most likely by UV, and
this produces exactly the situation you describe. Silicone will
always impart a slight hazing on the film, as well as a slight
greasy feeling due to how smooth it is but not to the extent
    that you describe."
