Assistant Conservator of Objects Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology Harvard University <URL:http://www.peabody.harvard.edu> Duties and responsibilities : Conduct condition surveys; assist in analyzing results. Perform full range of conservation treatments for organic and inorganic materials for the museum's exhibition and loan programs. Provide photographic documentation, written technical examination, selected material analysis, and treatment of at-risk objects, and updating of technical reports in museum database. Develop and maintain the museum's environmental monitoring program including downloading, analyzing and report generation. Provide technical advice on preventive conservation measures for objects in storage. Implement procedures for preservation problems in consultation with senior conservation and collections staff. Advise staff on appropriate storage systems for complex fragile objects. Develop prototypes for storage containers and housings. Supervise conservation interns on designated projects. This position may require periodic travel. This position reports to Head Conservator. Other duties as required. Required Education, Experience and Skills: Masters Degree in Art Conservation with object specialization required, 1-2 years professional conservation experience, preferably with anthropological collections. Demonstrated excellence performing conservation treatments required. Knowledge of cultural history, technology, materials of three-dimensional objects; good understanding of chemical and physical processes of deterioration. Ability to work independently and as part of team. Good analytical and problem solving skills; ability to establish and achieve priorities. Good communication and interpersonal skills required.
