The Conservation Group is part of the Department of Conservation,
Documentation and Science at the British Museum. We are recruiting
conservators to join the following sections.

Conservator
Stone, Wall Paintings and Mosaics Section

    2 positions indefinite contract
    UKP19,999 pa

    6 month contract

    As a team member of conservators in the Stone, Wall Paintings
    and Mosaics section, you will assist with the conservation of
    stone objects in the Museum's collections. You will carry out
    ball aspects of practical conservation of stone objects for
    display (permanent and temporary exhibitions), loans, storage
    and curatorial/scientific research purposes. You may also be
    required to work on mosaics and wall paintings if the need
    arises. You will collaborate with staff of the various
    curatorial departments on the treatment, display and storage of
    the Museum's collections.

    You will have a recognised professional qualification which
    includes the conservation of archaeological and/or historical
    stone objects as well as demonstrable practical stone object
    conservation skills. You must be able to demonstrate an
    understanding of conservation theory, ethical decision making,
    and have an awareness of health and safety issues and be IT
    literate. You will have conserved stone objects during
    conservation training placements/internships or may have worked
    in a museum conservation studio.

Conservator
Ceramics, Glass and Metals Section

    1 Position at British Museum
    indefinite contract

    As a member of the metals conservation team, you will assist
    with the conservation of the Museum's collections of historical
    and archaeological metalwork and generally contribute to the
    care of collections programme. You will carry out all aspects of
    the practical conservation of historical and archaeological
    metal objects for display (permanent and temporary exhibitions),
    loans, storage, and curatorial research purposes. You will
    collaborate with staff of the various curatorial departments on
    the treatment, display and storage of the Museum's collections.

    You will have a recognised professional qualification which
    includes the conservation of archaeological and/or historical
    metal objects as well as demonstrable practical skills in the
    conservation of archaeological and historical metals. You must
    be able to demonstrate an understanding of conservation theory,
    ethical decision making, and have an awareness of health and
    safety issues and be IT literate. You will have experience of
    archaeological conservation and other work with metals in
    employment or during training placements.
