Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the
position of Conservator of Frames and Furniture. This position is
an integral part of the NGV Frames and Furniture Conservation team,
which provides specialist technical services for the conservation of
picture frames and furniture at the NGV.

While each member of the team works on both frames and furniture
projects, this position has responsibility for coordinating the work
program for Australian frames, including conservation treatments,
frame making, changeovers, loans and new acquisitions. The NGV
Conservation Department is a leader in the field of picture frame
conservation and frame reproduction, and this vacancy provides a
rare opportunity for specialization and development in this area.

Established in 1861, the National Gallery of Victoria is Australia's
oldest public art gallery, holding an outstanding collection of
Australian and International art at two display venues and an
off-site store. The position is based in the NGV Conservation
Department's recently refurbished facilities at NGV: International,
located on St Kilda Road, Melbourne.

We are seeking an experienced conservator with a tertiary degree in
the conservation of cultural materials, or equivalent experience.
Demonstrated skills and experience in the conservation of highly
valuable frames and furniture, including complex treatments, is
required.

In addition, well-developed interpersonal, communication and
organizational skills are essential. Extensive knowledge and
practical experience in the gilding, ornamentation and construction
of frames and furniture is highly desirable. Refer to the role
statement for detailed position requirements. A copy of the role
statement can be obtained on-line at

Written applications should include a covering letter, a statement
addressing the key selection criteria in the role statement, and a
current resume.
