present:

Archives Preservation: Holdings Maintenance
Regents University Library, Virginia Beach, VA
31 Oct 2006
9am-4pm

Holdings maintenance, the basic preservation procedures incorporated
into arrangement and description duties, is recognized as a
fundamental component of archives preservation. It represents a
practical approach to preserving large groups of records housed in
repositories and can significantly benefit an institution,
regardless of its size or scope. The emphasis is on stabilizing
materials (for example, by removing damaging fasteners), re-housing,
cleaning, flattening rolled or folded documents, encapsulation,
photocopying, and segregating fragile items.
