IS&T image permanence award

From: Douglas W. Nishimura <dwnpph>

This award announcement is one more reason by photograph
conservation is so fortunate. This award, sponsored by HP with the
participation of IIC formally establishes recognition by the imaging
industry of the importance of permanence and preservation. The
Society for Imaging Science and Technology (IS&T) has had sessions
at conferences dealing with image permanence, but this is the first
time that an award has been established for the advancement of the
longevity of photographic and so-called digital printing methods. No
other field of conservation has had so much industry support first
for the production of storage and stability testing standards and
second, for their support of research into improvements in the
stability of these materials. I also believe that this is the first
time that a professional industry organization and a professional
conservation organization have banded together for such a purpose.
