Conservation Technician
Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh, PA

The Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh, PA is seeking a
conservation technician to perform support duties and assist with
basic conservation treatment in both the Paintings and Objects Labs.
This is a part-time position paid at a competitive hourly rate (four
days a week), and is perfect for those seeking valuable paid
pre-program experience for the purposes of entering a graduate
conservation program.

Responsibilities may include monitoring data loggers,
hygrothermographs and insect traps, weekly dusting of frames and
objects in the museum galleries, rehousing works for long-term
storage, organization, maintenance and updating of the conservation
labs and reports on file, and performing basic conservation
treatments under the conservators supervision.

The Carnegie Museum of Art is a world-class museum with a fine
collection. The robust arts scene, the low cost of living, the
part-time hours and the close proximity to numerous large
universities makes the CMA and Pittsburgh ideal for gaining
preprogram experience while completing the prerequisites to enter a
graduate conservation program.

Candidates must have a bachelors degree with a background in art
history, studio art, science or a related field and be familiar with
desktop computers and digital cameras. Other desirable
qualifications include a general knowledge of conservation,
experience in handling museum objects and working in a museum
environment. We are committed to offering the position to an
individual who is actively seeking to enter the field of
conservation.
