This position examines, evaluates, treats, cleans, and repairs in
order to preserve documents, books, newsprint, images, film,
recordings, objects, and related archival materials. Performs
in-depth examinations of artifacts, documents, and materials;
researches records, books, and photographs to identify previous
conditions; and determines methods of restoration and preservation.
Prepares documentation of examinations and recommends conservation
treatment. Determines products needed for cleaning, testing, and
restoring archival material; locates retailers; and requisitions
products. Advises staff, professionals, and the general public on
the proper care of historical documents. Performs related
responsibilities as required or assigned.

Applicants must meet or exceed these qualifications: the formal
education equivalent of a bachelor's degree in history, American
studies, art history, or a related field, including specialized
training in museum or archival conservation practices; plus three
years' experience involving museum or archival conservation.
