Museum/Archival Conservator Arkansas History Commission Position #:22091328 Salary: $31,339 History Commission, Little Rock, AR <URL:http://www.ark-ives.com/> Closing date: October 9, 2006 This position examines, evaluates, treats, cleans, and repairs in order to preserve documents, books, newsprint, images, film, recordings, objects, and related archival materials. Performs in-depth examinations of artifacts, documents, and materials; researches records, books, and photographs to identify previous conditions; and determines methods of restoration and preservation. Prepares documentation of examinations and recommends conservation treatment. Determines products needed for cleaning, testing, and restoring archival material; locates retailers; and requisitions products. Advises staff, professionals, and the general public on the proper care of historical documents. Performs related responsibilities as required or assigned. This position offers a full benefit package including paid holidays, annual and sick leave, health insurance and retirement pension. Applicants must meet or exceed these qualifications: the formal education equivalent of a bachelor's degree in history, American studies, art history, or a related field, including specialized training in museum or archival conservation practices; plus three years' experience involving museum or archival conservation.
