Scratches on engraved glass

A modern art glass table gave us some trouble with a "Securit" type
of glass that suffer from deep scratches on one side, but has artist
engraving on the other side. This last fact made the replacement of
the glass out of question.

The work has to be made in situ as it is far too heavy to manoeuvre.
Can someone suggest what method could best be followed as to soften
the visible impact of scratches.
