Don't Panic: Dealing with Hazardous Materials in Collections Conference Institute of Conservation: Care of Collections Group and Metals Group Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery 21-22 November 2006, Are objects bad for your health? What lurks in your store room? Do you know what to do with an unexploded bomb? We are planning a two day conference on hazardous materials in collections and how to deal with them. It will highlight issues of risk, solutions to storage, transport, display and disposal. The days will be focusing on organic and inorganic materials, covering everything from radiation to asbestos. There will be speakers from Victoria and Albert Museum The Science Museum Royal Armouries National Museums of Scotland Imperial War Museum Private Conservators English Heritage Royal Pharmaceutical Society National Museums of Wales Care of Collections and Metals Group There will also be a chance to view the latest exhibitions at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery The Organisers: The Care of Collections Group (CCG) exists to draw together and share the diverse knowledge and skills that are needed to address the issues and activities relating to the care of collections. The Metals Group has a specialist interest in the conservation and restoration of metal objects which may be anything from small decorative artworks to large industrial machinery ranging in date from early history to the present day.
